Come for an engaging session to learn about processes that spur on creativity and innovation using a human centred design and systems thinking approach in education. Over the two days we will be exploring Social Innovation Lab (SIL) techniques that can help teachers learn about course creation with students at the centre. We will draw on tangible examples from our practice using SIL processes to design blended online and within community courses that are student centred.

A Social Innovation Lab (SIL) is a new and promising approach that draws on the strengths, empathy, creativity, and wisdom of a group to explore new methods to make progress on complex challenges. Social Innovation Labs are guided by convening diverse perspectives on an issue: gaining insights from people with lived experiences of a challenge, facilitating ideation, building prototypes of solutions, and testing them to see how they work on the ground with people. If a tested prototype is working, it can be scaled up and spread to affect systemic change. SIL’s have been effective ways of engaging parents and community members using a democratic process for meeting the challenges and opportunities that school's face in supporting the educational needs of students.
